The first man to refer to the team as “the Habs” was Tex Rickard, owner of Madison Square Garden, in 1924. Rickard apparently told a reporter that the “H” on the Canadiens’ sweaters was for “Habitants.” Not true. The distinctive C-wrapped-around-H logo stands for “Club de Hockey Canadien.”

Youppi, the Canadiens official mascot, was the first mascot in professional sports to switch leagues.

As you are well aware the NHL has announce the regular and pre-season schedule for the upcomming 2010-2011 season. This year the schedule was announced weeks earlier than in the past as part of the NHLs plan to continue marketing the league rolling off of the NHL award ceremonies and NHL 2010 draft that were held in Los Vegas and Los Angeles respectively.
The 2010-2011 schedule for the Montreal Canadiens Looks exciting! Again the Habs will start their season on the road, and again face the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first and last weeks of the regular season. The Canadiens will open their home schedule at the Bell Centre vs the Tampa Bay Lightning and the french connection of Vincent Lecalvier Marty St Louis and newcomer Simone Gagne who was aquired from the Philadelphia Flyers this summer in a move to dump some salary by Philly.
Some noteworthy dates in the Canadiens schedule for 2010 2011 are the outdoor game planned for Calgary on february 20th. The last time the Montreal Canadiens played in an outdoor game was the heritage classic in Edmonton, which can be remembered for the Canadiens winning, and goaltender Jose Theodore sporting a Canadiens toque a-top his goalie mask.
The Canadiens also play their traditional superbowl weekend matinee games on Feb. 5th and 6th vs the New York Rangers on the 5th at 2pm and the New Jersey Devils on the 6th at 3pm at the Bell Centre of course in Downtown Montreal.  The Canadiens will also head south to Florida 2 times again this season playing the Panthers and Lightning on Dec 30th and 31st and again in March on the 3rd and 5th.

With the way the 2009-2010 season ended for the Montreal Canadiens, squeaking into the playoffs in 8th place on the last day of the regular season, and then beating the top 2 teams in the East in the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals there is no reason to believe that this entire season cannot be as magical as last.
